Seriously people…if you want to communicate how Sundays are not counted in Lent, fine, but at least include a “non-Lent” scripture reading (on Sunday) to encourage people to read everyday. Maybe they are concerned that people will think that reading the Bible everyday is too much work and will be turned off from their app. It almost sounds like they believe reading scripture is a chore and that they we need a break from time to time. True…Sundays are technically not counted in Lent but a “day off” from reading scripture? But not just a day off but “enjoy it”? That doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. I have no problem with that part as it is true but this is what came next: “ There is no reading for today, enjoy your day off… “ĭid they really tell me to enjoy my day off from reading the Bible? So I read it again and sure enough, “ … enjoy your day off…” I have a problem with that. Every Sunday is a “mini-Easter”, when we celebrate the resurrection of Christ and his victory over sin and death…” Well…today I signed in to read my text and this is what I found: Sundays are days off in this reading plan, as they are traditionally not considered a part of Lent. It has a short thought to consider and then a couple texts to read each day…almost. One of the plans I have subscribed to is a Lenten plan. I like this app…but there is a glaring flaw.Īnother feature of this app is that it contains a number of different Bible reading plans (devotional, partial Bible, topical, whole Bible and youth). I can make notes on my favorite passages. I can share favorite passages with Facebook and Twitter. It has a few different versions of the Bible. I have this Bible app (YouVersion) for my Droid X smart phone. Wow…I get a day off today, but it is not what you think. For you see, If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to you the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you. Basically, there is no hiding from God in the darkness AND darkness can not overtake you to hide you from God. No matter the situation, at the very least you have God’s Word ~ which is A LOT. Power outage, cancer, illness, job loss, kids out of control, marriage problems, etc.

Either the coffee hadn’t kicked in yet or the outage had dampened my sense of humor.Įither way, no matter what happens in life, God’s Word is a light to our path. Got to love Him, right? The other funny thing about it was when I shared this verse on Facebook on Sunday morning I didn’t catch the connection until someone commented on it. This is simply God with a sense of humor. You can’t make this stuff up ~ at least not with a straight face. You see, Sunday at 1:30 AM began a 23 hour power outage for us. A good verse for Epiphany Sunday but that is not why I am sharing this. The above verse was the verse of the day on the YouVersion Bible app for Sunday, January 6. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
